FAQS
Q: Why is glutamine not recommended for people with Crohn’s disease?
A: Glutamine has been tested in several studies with patients who have Crohn's disease, and it not only did not help, but it appeared to exacerbate the condition. (1-4) The reason why is not exactly known, but individuals with Crohn's disease have increased T cells, and glutamine's ability to activate T cells might be the problem. Glutamine is also metabolized to citrulline, which is in turn converted to arginine, a substrate for nitric oxide (NO) synthesis. Excessive NO could contribute to tissue injury and inflammation in individuals with Crohn's disease. (5) REFERENCES 1. Akobeng AK, Miller V, Stanton J, Elbadri AM, Thomas AG. Q: Why does the caution statement for Glutamine Forte state that a healthcare practitioner should be consulted if you have active liver disease?
A: There is one study in which patients with liver cirrhosis and awaiting liver transplantation received oral glutamine (10-20 gram single dose) and experienced increased blood ammonia and impaired performance on certain neuropsychiatric tests.(1) This suggests a possible risk of exacerbating portal-systemic encephalopathy, which could be dangerous for cirrhosis patients. Although such a scenario is unlikely except in cases of severe liver disease, the dose used in the referenced study is achievable with Glutamine Forte, so we opted to err on the side of caution to allow the user and their doctor to make a fully informed decision. Q: What is the source of the L-Glutamine used in Glutamine Forté?
A: The L-Glutamine that is used in Glutamine Forté is from a natural source, made through bio-fermentation of corn.
Q: Does glutamine supplementation raise glutamate levels?
A: Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body. It is a conditionally essential amino acid, meaning that it is required in increased amounts under certain conditions, e.g., of metabolic stress, to support healthy intestinal function. In many cell types, including enterocytes, glutamine acts as a primary fuel for mitochondria and is essential to the maintenance of mitochondrial membrane (1) and optimal intestinal motility.*(2) Glutamine supplementation has been extensively validated in numerous controlled clinical trials, and has been shown to be effective at supporting healthy blood and tissue levels of glutamine and optimizing intestinal and digestive health function in diverse groups of patients.* (3-8) Glutamate, a degradation product of glutamine, has been implicated in some adverse neurological effects. Glutamine can also be converted to glutamate in cells by mitochondrial glutaminase, an enzyme whose levels are often upregulated in tumors and tumor lines. (9, 10) Thus, concern has been raised that glutamine supplementation might theoretically elevate glutamate levels, particularly in cancer patients. However, studies of high intakes of glutamine have shown that concentrations of glutamate are not significantly increased.(11) The most comprehensive safety study of glutamine supplementation performed five separate experiments to examine safety under different circumstances, assessing blood glutamine, glutamate, other amino acids, glucose, insulin, glucagon and growth hormone; urinary creatinine, ammonia, urea and total nitrogen; standard clinical chemistry, complete blood counts, mental status, vital signs, temperature and clinical and subjective evidence of toxicity. These careful studies, including treatments of up to 30 days long and at doses of up to 40 grams per day of glutamine, in both healthy volunteers and sick patients, were not able to detect any sign of adverse effects. (12) Lacey and colleagues investigated the effects of glutamine-supplemented parenteral nutrition for 15 days in 44 preterm neonates, who might possibly be more sensitive to adverse effects than adults. Plasma glutamine level rose by 50%, but glutamate and ammonia remained within the normal range. On the basis of the measurements of plasma ammonia and glutamate and the absence of clinical signs of neurotoxicity, it was concluded that glutamine as dosed was safe in preterm infants.(13) Glutamine supplementation has been studied in diverse patient groups, including cancer patients. No studies were identified in which glutamine supplementation raised glutamate to levels outside the normal range. Therefore, the best available evidence suggests that conversion of glutamine to glutamate is not a significant concern in glutamine supplementation. REFERENCES 1. Wise DR, Thompson CB. SUPPORTS COLON FUNCTION
Fiber Formula contains fiber and herbs to support colon function.
WITH TRUE DISPERSION TECHNOLOGY
The formula features True Dispersion Technology to ensure the fiber is completely released and dispersed throughout the colon. The adequate intake (AI) for fiber is 14 g per 1,000 calories. Many Americans do not meet daily recommendations for dietary fiber intake.
DIRECTIONS
Fiber Formula Directions and/or Dosage Adults take 5 capsules daily with at least 8 oz of liquid. If desired, may be taken as 2 capsules in the morning, and 3 capsules at night, with at least 8 oz of liquid, or as recommended by a healthcare professional.
Warning Taking this product without adequate fluid may cause it to swell and block your throat or esophagus and may cause choking. Do not take this product if you have difficulty in swallowing. If you experience chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty in swallowing or breathing after taking this product, seek immediate medical attention. If you are pregnant, nursing, or taking prescription drugs, consult a healthcare professional before use. Keep out of reach of children. Safety sealed with inner seal. Do not use if seal is broken or missing. Keep tightly closed. Store at room temperature. Avoid excessive heat and direct sunlight.
FAQS
Q: I started taking Fiber Formula and I’ve noticed I feel very gassy. What should I do?
A: Because many people do not get very much fiber in their daily diets, when they do increase their fiber intake they may experience gas, cramping, or loose stools. The key to successfully increasing fiber intake without experiencing adverse effects is to gradually increase your fiber and make sure you get plenty of water. Start with 1/2 or 1/3 of the daily dosage and increase gradually over a few weeks.
Q: What is True DispersionTM Technology?
A: True Dispersion™ Technology fiber ensures that the psyllium, other ingredients such as oat bran, guar gum, and pectin, are completely released and dispersed for thorough colon cleansing. Encapsulated fiber supplements have limited surface area in which to trap and bind products of detoxification. Because True Dispersion Technology fiber completely disperses, it is both comfortable and provides superior surface area to bind toxins for elimination.*
Q: Why was psyllium chosen as the source of fiber in Fiber Formula?
A: Psyllium is one of the most preferred cleansing fibers because of its ability to bind toxins, increase stool bulk, and support regularity.

PROVIDES INOSITOL HEXANIACINATE
This supplement provides inositol hexaniacinate, a form of niacin (vitamin B3) used in Europe for more than 30 years.
DIRECTIONS
Flush-Free Niacin Directions and/or Dosage Adults take 1 capsule three times daily preferably with food, or as recommended by a healthcare professional.
Warning Do not use if you are pregnant or nursing. If you have gallbladder disease, gout, diabetes, impaired liver function, a history of peptic ulcers, or if you are taking any medications, consult a healthcare professional before use. Individuals with diabetes should monitor blood glucose levels while taking this product. Keep out of reach of children.
FAQS
Q: Is the flush-free niacin in Flush-Free Niacin superior to the non-flushing form of niacin to help cholestorol levels?
A: Inositol hexaniacinate is slowly metabolized in the body, and, therefore, has fewer side effects than nicotinic acid. The reduction in side effects (including flushing and gastrointestinal complaints) make inositol hexaniacinate a better choice for those wishing to support healthy cholesterol levels already within normal limits.&dagger It is believed that inositol hexaniacinate works by the same mechanism as nicotinic acid. A study comparing inositol hexaniacinate and nicotinic acid showed similar cholesterol support, except that inositol hexiniacinate was more effective at supporting triglyceride levels already within normal limits.†1
Q: Is Flush-Free Niacin a rapid-release or extended release formula?
A: Flush-Free Niacin provides 540 mg of niacin, as inositol hexaniacinate, per serving. Unlike other forms of niacin, which may cause side effects such as temporary flushing, itching and skin reddening, Flush-Free Niacin is formulated with a flush-free form of niacin, which slowly releases the niacin over an extended period. While the product is not formulated for rapid release, the capsule dissolves to release the key nutrients in a short time period (the historical range is 3 - 13 minutes with average dissolution < 7 minutes).

LIQUID FORMULA FOR CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM
WHAT IT IS
Liquid Calcium Magnesium provides a 2:1 ratio of calcium (citrate) to magnesium with an orange-vanilla flavor.
HOW IT WORKS
PROVIDES CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM IN ABSORBABLE CITRATE FORM
Each tablespoon provides 600 mg of calcium and 300 mg magnesium in absorbable citrate form. Liquid Calcium Magnesium also contains cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) for additional support. This formula is xylitol-free and does not contain vitamin K. A 2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium is best for individuals with greater dietary calcium needs.
DIRECTIONS
Liquid Calcium Magnesium (2:1) Directions and/or Dosage Adults take 1 tablespoon (15 mL) once daily with food or as recommended by a healthcare professional. Do not exceed recommended dose. Shake well before each use.
Warning If you are pregnant, nursing, or taking any medications, consult a healthcare professional before use. Keep out of reach of children. Safety sealed with inner seal. Do not use if seal is broken or missing. Keep tightly closed. Store at room temperature out of direct sunlight. Refrigerate after opening.
FAQS
Q: What is the difference between the citrate version and carbonate version of calcium?
A: Both calcium citrate and calcium carbonate are acceptable forms of calcium supplementation. Overall, carbonate generally has higher labeled amounts of elemental calcium. However, calcium carbonate is alkaline based, meaning it requires extra stomach acid for proper absorption. It is often recommended that carbonate versions are consumed with meals. Calcium citrate does not require extra stomach acid to be properly absorbed, and can be taken at any time of day, even on an empty stomach.

FAQS
Q: Why is the melatonin dosage so high in this formula? Is it safe?
A: While only 1- 3mg of melatonin is often the dosage needed to provide sleep support, this formula contains 10mg per capsule. This higher amount of melatonin supports important physiological effects - in addition to providing sleep support. When dosed between 10mg to 20mg per night, melatonin promotes cell repair, supports immunity, and provides antioxidant effects. Of note, some individuals whose occasional sleeplessness does not respond to lower doses of melatonin may benefit from higher doses under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Also, of note, supplemental melatonin, even at this dose, does not suppress the body's own production of melatonin
